Provisional results and performance statistics for candidates of 2024 WASSCE released

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in Ghana.

This development comes after significant delays attributed to financial and logistical challenges, notably the breakdown of essential scanning equipment and an outstanding debt owed by the government.

Earlier reports indicated that over 460,000 candidates were affected by the delay, causing widespread anxiety among students and their families.

The delays were primarily due to broken scanners critical for processing examination scripts, compounded by funding constraints. WAEC required immediate repairs or replacement of the equipment to complete the results processing.

In response to the situation, the Ministry of Education released an additional GHS25 million to WAEC to facilitate marking activities and ensure the timely release of the results. This funding was intended to support WAEC’s operations and ensure the smooth and seamless continuation of marking activities.

Following the government’s intervention, WAEC projected that the results would be released by the end of December.

John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, stated that with the additional funds, technicians were able to repair the scanners and broken-down machines, enabling the council to proceed with the results processing.

Candidates and schools can now access the results online via the WAEC official website, www.waecgh.org, using the provided login credentials.
