I am proud to hand over a Ghana that is safe, secure, and thriving – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his final State of the Nation Address on December 3, 2025, assured Ghanaians that he was leaving behind a “thriving Ghana” with a rebounding economy and strong democratic foundations.

Reflecting on his eight-year tenure, President Akufo-Addo described his administration’s efforts to stabilise the economy, navigate global challenges, and implement transformative policies as laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future.

He noted that despite the difficulties, particularly the controversial debt restructuring exercise, his government’s actions have strengthened the country’s fiscal position and restored economic credibility.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted achievements in key sectors such as education, healthcare, digitalisation, infrastructure, and energy, describing them as evidence of Ghana’s resilience and progress.

He pointed to the Free Senior High School programme, advancements in trade and industry, and investments in agriculture as critical components of his administration’s legacy.

“These successes are not mine alone. They belong to every Ghanaian who has contributed to nation-building,” he said.

The president acknowledged the sacrifices made by citizens, especially during the debt restructuring programme, which he admitted was one of the toughest decisions his administration faced.

“It was a painful but necessary exercise to ensure economic stability,” President Akufo-Addo explained.

He described Ghana as a nation that has “navigated significant global challenges with remarkable tenacity.”

He emphasised that the country is leaving behind an era of unsustainable debt and fiscal instability, paving the way for sustained growth.

“I am proud to hand over a Ghana that is safe, secure, and thriving – one that has laid the foundation for future prosperity,” he declared.
