The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has warned the general public, especially the victims of the recent kantamanto fire that no fees are charged for the issuance of the attestation letters related to fire and emergency incidents.

“We assure all affected victims that the matter is being taken seriously and a thorough investigation is underway, and any officer found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the GNFS’s disciplinary code.”

Desmond E. Ackah, also stated that this practice is unauthorise and the public is strongly advise not to pay any fees for requesting attestation letters.

He therefore, urged the public to report unprofessional acts of its personnel including such extortions to the GNFS Greater Accra Headquarters, Korle-Bu or contact the Public Relations Department on 050 960 8744 for necessary action.

A devastating fire gutted the Kantamanto Market in the Greater Accra Region destroyed the livelihoods of many traders.

The blaze, which started at dawn on Thursday, January 2, ravaged large sections of the market, affecting over 30,000 traders and destroying more than 7,000 shops.

Efforts to combat the fire were hampered by water shortages and logistical challenges, which prolonged the damage.
