The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the safe return of Evelyn Serwaa Konadu and Anastasia Baidoo, the two women who were recently kidnapped in Nigeria through an online romance scam.

According to the Police, the victims were lured by unidentified individuals posing as romantic partners online, only to be abducted upon their arrival in Nigeria.

Their ordeal gained national attention after a distressing video of them in captivity went viral, sparking widespread public concern and outrage.

Following this, the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigerian Police Force, launched a coordinated cross-border rescue operation. Their efforts led to the successful recovery of the victims and the arrest of eight suspects believed to be connected to the crime.

The suspects were apprehended at various hideouts across both Ghana and Nigeria, with security agencies working in close cooperation to bring them to justice.

Upon their arrival in Ghana, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, addressed the media at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Friday, May 9, where she urged the public to exercise caution when engaging with unfamiliar individuals online, especially in matters involving personal or financial trust.
